If you’re dealing with a badly stained apron, you need the big guns: a long soak in oxygenated bleach and hot water.Red wine is a tricky tannin stain that needs a little more attention than coffee and tea.Zout is a great all-purpose enzymatic pretreater that’s effective on protein (blood, dairy, egg yolk), carbohydrate (tomato), and simple tannin stains (coffee and tea).If it’s still there, repeat this process until it’s gone. Let the apron air dry and then check to see if the stain is gone. Let it sit for 10 minutes, then wash the apron as normal, but do not put it in the dryer (which can bake in the stain if it’s not fully out). Flush the spot with hot tap water and work some dish soap into the area. The trick to lifting grease from fabric is working out the stain while it’s fresh, and definitely before your apron goes through the dryer (the heat will permanently set it). Dish soap is formulated to cut through oil and grease, and it works just as well on fabric as it does on a crusty casserole dish. ![]()
